    Colonial Trucking Co.'s rental program

Is Colonial's rental program a bad idea or a good one. Have any of you drivers tried this rental program. Is it worth the risk? Their rental program is supposed to work like this: After I've been out with a trainer for up to 10 weeks (@ $500.00/week) I rent a truck from them. The rental payment is approximately $634.00 per week. They cover the insurance ( Colonial is self-insured), the maintenance and the repairs. The 'renter' pays the fuel. They claim that after the rental and fuel costs ( driver gets 100% of fuel surcharge?) the driver is supposed to clear about .52 - .57 cents per mile. Can anyone confirm these figures from your own experience? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I see your just getting into the trucking business I would get my feet wet for a year or so just to make sure this is what you want to stick with, learn the ropes get yourself adjusted to road life then make that decision. I feel it is to early to get into a lease to purchase right now and maybe a bad thing for you at this time.

Re: Colonial Trucking Co.'s rental program

I agree with you about not doing the rental until I've been a company driver somewhere else first. The program Colonial has is not a 'lease', but a 'rental'. They pay the insurance (they are self-insured). They also take care of all repairs and maintenance. I still don't trust their program though. I'd like to hear from someone who has actually rented one of their trucks to hear how it did or didn't work for them. Colonial just started this rental program in Sept. 07. Thanks for your input.
