HELP! Best companies to drive for?

I'm fairly new to driving, nothing OTR yet but have been driving bigs for roughly a year.  I want to do some OTR(company driver) for at least a year for the experience but no matter how much research I do I can't seem to come to a decision on any particular company!  Once I think I do, then there's a "rip-off report" on that company.  Or, I look through the forums and truckers are ripping it.  I can't seem to find and company that I can find 5 consecutive truckers that like it or would recommend it.  Any Truckers out there that simply LOVE the company they're with?

You have to take negative reposrts with a grain of salt. Remember there are always 2 sides to each story all you seeing is 1. The rippoff reports can be nothing but garbage as I had one on my site due to the fact I shut down a site doing something illegial so they do a ripoff report on me. That site is good and yet bad, and each report has to be taken with the fact it is one way.

There are many many good companies out there remember they are run by humans all make mistakes all the way down to the driver. Follow your gut feeling get some good benifits for you and if married your family and do your best. Good drivers are an asset to any company and they will want to keep ya if your a good depandable driver.

     Happy hunting,

Re: HELP! Best companies to drive for?

I have to disagree at least a little bit.  I've been with four different carriers in the 3 years I've been on the road.  It isn't a matter of which one is better, but which one is NOT worse.  Sort of like voting for President.  I don't vote FOR a ticket, I vote AGAINST the other.   8-)

I know I'll catch a lot of "flak" for this, but driving is an ugly, nasty job that is unappreciated by EVERYBODY.  Among those that seem to be "out to get ya" are cops, DOT officers, shippers/consignees and most of all dispatchers.  Oh, yeah.....   Truck stop owners are well up the list at raping the driver as well. I do it (and did it.... I'm pretty much retired) only because at my advanced age it was the only decent paying job I could find with little to no experience (I'm a computer engineer with over 40 years exp and can't get a job....   THAT industry LOVES youth).

I recently drove for a company (second time there) that touts it's really low turnover rate.   This would indicate a high level of driver satisfaction.  Still, I wouldn't go back to that company right now.

Now, to those of you that LOVE the profession, please don't flame me.  If it's your cup-of-tea, great.  But for me, if I never get back in a rig, it would be too soon.  However, I have a need for a few exttra $$$ to go with my retirement funds (mostly pissing away money) so I'll go back at least one more time before I quit FOR GOOD.

    Just my $.02 worth

    Boo

well let me go on my soap box for my 5 cents if you are a student (admin) you are good as gold to a company till abt 2 yrs if you been the rules and scratch dispatchers back when they screwed up your are the man oh by the way if u run out of route and are given 2 heavy loads and have to dodge scales plus out of hours and yes they know then your punishment is a firing especially if you are under the time frame of 45 days.....when you work in this industry we are against the clock have no advocates even tho companies say we do.....i think maybe it is time we get some one on our side or maybe start writing in the ripoff reports   www.ripoffreports.com   or find us a voice in the wilderness cause it seems you get a few marks wham you are done for.....sorry for rambling on ......
