    Transfer CDL to Another State?

Hello, I need some information (since the Fla/Bama offices are closed today).  I have a Class "A" CDL w/Hazmat/tanker & wish to move my residence to Bama.  Does Bama recognize my license or how does it that work?  Is testing needed or ?.  I have a clean/spotless record.  Use to drive for a little bit and probably going to get back in it since the kids are growing up :) .  Been in Fla all my life & time for a change since the kids are moving etc.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Rollbar first welcome to the board.

  • No. Provided the endorsements can be verified by the previous state of record.
  • For Hazardous Materials Endorsement (HME), you must pass a hazardous materials written test.
  • You must register with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and successfully complete and pass a background check
  • Looks like the cdl will transfer but the HMS looks like u may need to be tested again.

Thank you, I can pass the background no problem and the endoersments can be verified.  My HME will run out in March of 2010 so it's time to re take anyway.

At least the CDL class "A" will transfer.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Jim

O.K. One more question (sorry, don't know where to find it).  Will the same CDl w/hazmat/tanker transfer to Tennessee?

From reading I am pretty sure you will have to be retested on the hazmat as some of the State laws are different regards to this and you need to know the State laws your moving into.

Thank you, sorry about the easy questions but I didn't know where to turn to.  Glad Bubba was around :)
